Many Christians believe they have an understanding of what faith is. Going to church and reading your bible, even knowing the plan of salvation does not mean a person is living a life of faith. Faith is so much more than just “doing” what we think is right. Faith is a spiritual matter. It is a matter of the heart. In order to grow, develop and release your faith, you have to begin with being a hearer of the Word. Romans 10:17 says So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Hearing the word of God once (or once in awhile) will not produce the faith needed to live the life God has called you to live. We must continually hear the word of God in order to condition our hearts to believe what God has promised for us.
Faith must be a priority!
We have to make a decision to give the Word of God first place. The Word of God must have the final authority over every person, situation and circumstance in our lives. Joel Osteen says it best in his opening declaration before every Sunday sermon. He proclaims “This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do.” It becomes easy and even second nature to make such bold proclamations over your life when you have given the Word of God priority! When you continually feed your heart on the Word of God your faith is activated. Once your faith is active it has the power to overcome anything in this world.
